“How do I get to watch more lacrosse?”
Trying to solve that simple question has been a life-long pursuit, one that got pushed front and center as my kids started really loving the game. When the NCAA finally made NIL – more broadly known as Name, Image, and Likeness – a legal activity in 2021, it kicked the door of opportunity wide open.
As a former Student-Athlete I was thrilled that kids would finally be able to monetize themselves without penalty or fear of repercussions. Just having that opportunity was awesome, and I was incredibly optimistic. I followed along from the sidelines for the better part of a year and watched as the super-athletes started getting paid, Collectives began to form, and the Transfer Portal became, well, the Transfer Portal.
Without regulations or standards NIL turned into complete chaos. I knew there had to be a better way, and surely an alternative must exist, so I went looking for it. When the search came up empty, I was actually shocked.
There were, and are, several platforms that allow Student-Athletes to monetize their Name, Image, and Likeness – so on the surface, opportunity is everywhere. Or is it? It’s hard enough to find that proverbial needle in the haystack, but with these platforms it was like looking for a needle in a needle stack. It didn’t make sense to me.
And that is the origin story of Top Star Athletic Club.
The NIL of today, as chaotic as it may be, is not the NIL of tomorrow. Taking a foundational approach to the business is neither the quick, nor easy path…but we believe it’s the right one.
At Top Star we are throwing convention out the window and blazing a new trail, one that will deliver more opportunities to more Student-Athletes now, and as the industry moves forward.
Welcome to Top Star AC, where we have a singular mission:
To Make NIL Work Better. Better for Student-Athletes, Better for Brands, Better for the Future
